Sol. When we talk about only two things, we use ‘the former’ and ‘the latter’. In case of more than two things, we use ‘the first’ and ‘the last’.

Sol. ‘Were blown’ - the sentence is in passive voice (were + v3). Trees were blown down (by the strom).

Sol. Use ‘speaking’ - in place of - ‘to speak’. The correct usage is: to avoid doing something.

Ex- She avoids talking to me nowadays.

Sol. Use ‘than’ - in place of - ‘then’. For comparison, we use ‘than’, not ‘then’. Then - at that time.

Sol. Use ‘drinking’ - in place of ‘drink’. We use the gerund (v1 + ing) form of the verb after ‘accustomed to’, and ‘look forward to’.

Ex- I look foeard forward to meeting you. (Correct)

Ex- I look forward to meet you. (Incorrect)

Sol. Use ‘No sooner did I see’ - in place of - ‘No ssoner I saw’. "No sooner" is used with an inversion of the subject and helping verb (first we write helping verb and then the subject).

Sol. In this case, "the" should be repeated before "best" and “wisest”, because we are describing two distinct qualities.

Sol. The subject of the sentence is ‘India’, which is singular. Hence, ‘its’ should be used here instead of ‘their’.

Note 1: “It’s” means ‘it is’ or ‘it has’. 

Note 2: We don’t use “it’s” for ‘it was’.
